Choosing the best real estate agent for you: 3 tips

On Behalf of | Feb 26, 2023 | Real Estate Law

Purchasing a new house is one of the most stressful things you can do. It often feels like nothing ever seems to go to plan and there’s a lot of time spent waiting around. Having a good real estate agent can make the entire process go much more smoothly.

Whether you’re a homeowner who’s looking to move somewhere new, or if you have a property to sell, it’s a good idea to “shop around” for a real estate agent that you feel is a good fit. What should you look for when making your choice?

1. Ask for recommendations

Has someone else you know recently moved house and been raving about their real estate agent? Perhaps someone at work has someone they’ve used for years. Asking around for recommendations means that you’re working with someone you know is good at their job. This approach takes away some of the risk of just using a real estate agent you find online.

2. Find someone who matches your personality

While going through the house purchase or selling process, you’re going to be working with this person a lot so you need to like them. Talking to a few estate agents can help you to find someone who you feel like you have a connection with and that “gets you” and what you’re looking for. This will make the whole process much more enjoyable.

3. Interview and ask the right questions

It’s a good idea to interview about 3 different estate agents before you decide on one. This will help you to get a good idea of what you’re looking for. Asking a few of the following questions are important in understanding what kind of service you are going to get:

  • How many clients do you work with at any one time?
  • What are your specialties?
  • How long have you been in the role?
  • Do you have any references?

Having the right people in place when going through a house sale or purchase is key to making the process go as smoothly as possible.
