Be wary of these signs when viewing a home

On Behalf of | Dec 26, 2022 | Real Estate Law

Going to see homes for sale that interest you is necessary when you’re looking for a home to purchase. While you might be tempted to look at the layout and aesthetic value of the home, the initial viewing is a good chance to determine if there’s anything amiss with the home.

Once you make an offer on a home, you’ll need an inspection done. You have to pay for that inspection, and most people don’t want to waste money on an inspection if a home has serious issues. Foundation problems are one of the more serious things you may encounter because they can be very costly to correct.

Signs there might be a foundation problem

One of the easiest signs of a foundation problem to spot when you walk through a home is cracks in the walls. In some cases, you may also notice that doors don’t close properly or that they get stuck. Windows may also do the same thing. Flooring that bounces or creaks are another sign of a foundation problem.

Cracks in the exterior and a wet crawl space are also signs that there’s something wrong with the foundation. You may also notice that there are weeds around the foundation of the home. The home siding may be warped, and a chimney may lean if the foundation is damaged.

You must ensure that you’re making the best decision possible when you choose a home to purchase. Making sure that you’re protecting your interests is critical. Having someone on your side who can review the documentation and go over the legal aspects of the deal is important.
